In April of 2014, Tom Fortunato sent me (as the Webmaster of the Malaria Philatelists International (MPI)) an email and informed me that "All APS Chapters and Affiliates are able to participate in the 2014 APS Chapters Activity Committee Web Site Awards". Tom Fortunato is the Chairman of the APS Chapter Activities Committee. Essentially, the competition is a review of a stamp club website. There are two judges and they both judges evaluate the web sites in the competition and look for ease of use, clear images, easy navigation, officer information, exhibit information, ... and a whole slew of other aspects of what should be on a stamp club web site. There is a score sheet on the Chapters and Affiliates website. The competition has been going for four years and after receiving a low mark last year, I rewrote the website with better navigation and added some more club information. With the new navigation, users can find information a lot easier and the judges agreed. Although the site received a Gold, there was a low grade for "Online Articles/Publication Samples". This seems strange to me as Miasma newsletter since 1979 is online on the Miasma Archive page. I talked to the judge (Kristen Patterson) who marked this down and she said that the one of the issues is that the articles do not come out on a regular basis and the time between can be large. So, I will now publish the Miasma on a schedule of January 1, May 1, and then September 1. Below is a digital medal which can be shown on the website. Below that is certificate, and below that is Kristen Patterson handing me the certificate at StampShow 2014 in Hartford.
